Gospel × House

Gospel × House

Gospel and house music share the same structure: call-and-response, repetition as ritual, music that takes people somewhere together. House music started in Chicago. Marshall Jefferson, Larry Heard, Frankie Knuckles — all of them came from gospel. That was not a background they left behind. It was the ground they built on.

From that ground, we make our journey. In rehearsal rooms, on stage, at festivals. That line from the church to the club has never been broken.

What is possible
Journey Gospel Choir is moving towards festival stages and clubs. The formats below give an idea of the direction — and of what a collaboration could look like. Get in touch if you want to explore the possibilities.

Festival set: A full live set combining gospel repertoire with house arrangements. In collaboration with a resident DJ, artist, or on our own.

DJ × Journey Gospel Choir: The choir as live accompaniment to a DJ set. Live harmonies, call-and-response, a set aligned in advance. A format we are keen to develop further with the right partner.

Club Night: An evening built around Journey Gospel Choir in a club setting. Intimate, energetic, memorable. In our own programming or in partnership with a booking agency or venue.

House Gospel Workshop: Singing, movement and learning the story between gospel and house music. Followed by a live performance. Suitable for festivals, cultural institutions and community events.
