The rhythm, the call-and-response, that collective feeling of being carried somewhere together: that is gospel, and that is house. From Joe Smooth and The Praise Cats to the great gospel classics, the repertoire of this day moves right at that intersection. Vocal technique, harmony, rhythm and expression — in a space where those two worlds become one.

Richard Schoonhoven studied at the ArtEZ Conservatory and in 2015 met the founders of the Grammy Award-winning Soweto Gospel Choir, with whom he has collaborated. Since then he has worked as a vocal coach, conductor and producer on choral productions with internationally renowned artists including Michelle Davids, Kine Fossheim and Shirley Hlahatse (The Lion King). His approach: technically sharp, personal and full of energy.
